4-H youth host events to share ag’s story
Members of the Crow Peak Valley Rangers 4-H Club in Lawrence county coordinated two events in July to help share the story of agriculture with urban consumers. On July 8, free beef samples were offered during the Spearfish Friday Nights activities on Main Street. 4-H’ers also offered beef recipes and nutrition information to consumers and visited with them about 4-H and the importance of ag. The beef samples were purchased with grant funds from a South Dakota Beef Industry Council grant. On July 18, 4-H’ers spent the afternoon with youth at the Creekside Elementary summer program in Spearfish teaching about agriculture. 4-H’ers set up five stations each with a different ag topic and then had students participate in activities like by-product bingo, designing a nutritious meal and identifying different crops.
