Rodeo and western events to be held at SD State Fair
HURON, S.D. – A full schedule of rodeo and western events will be held in the Hippodrome and the North Arena during the South Dakota State Fair.
Events kick off on Thursday, Sept. 1 with the SD Stock Dog Association Stock Dog Trials in the Hippodrome. The event features ranch, open and intermediate classes. There is $500 guaranteed added money. For more information, contact Tim Naasz at 605-337-3503.
Team roping and cowboy mounted shooting are next on the schedule for Friday, Sept. 2. Team roping will be held in the Hippodrome and has guaranteed added money of $500 and prizes. Ropers can enter the day of the event at 9 a.m. For more information contact Ty Talsma at 605-661-3919. Cowboy mounted shooting will be held in the North Arena and also offers $500 added money. The Rodney Yost Horsemanship Demonstration will be held on Friday, Sept. 2 and Saturday, Sept. 3.
Barrels Gone Wild Barrel Racing is one of the featured events on Saturday, Sept. 3 in the Hippodrome. The barrel racing offers guaranteed added money of $2,000. Pre-entries will be taken, along with entries the day of. The barrel racing is sponsored by Thunderbird Liquor Store, Prostrollos, Iverson’s Featherlite, South Dakota Wheat Growers, Farm Bureau Insurance, Dakotaland Feeds, Huron Veterinary Clinic, North Central Farmers Elevator, Premier Equipment, NAPA, Vern’s MFG, A-1 Auto and Truck Collision & Repair, NTA, WW Tire Service, West-way Trailers and Double D Western Wear. Rodeo action comes to the fair on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4 with the SD Youth Timed Event Championship Rodeo. Pre-entry is required.
