Milbank FFA members to participate at national events

The Milbank FFA Chapter will have FFA members participating in the National FFA Floriculture Career Development event, in the National Band and Chorus, receiving their FFA American Degree and being part of the South Dakota FFA Delegates at the 89th National FFA Convention, October 19-22 in Indianapolis.

The Milbank FFA Floriculture team that will represent South Dakota is made up of Tera Hanson, Magally (Kimberly) Aburto, Maddie Liebe, Korinne Roggenbuck and Cassidy Voeltz.

In the National FFA Floriculture CDE, FFA members test their knowledge and skills in the production and retailing of flowers, plants and foliage. Participants must complete a general knowledge exam on the floriculture industry, identify plant materials, demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills, employment and customer service skills, technical floral skills and the ability to work as a team. Teams competed at the local and state levels to earn the privilege of representing their home state at the National FFA Convention & Expo.

Milbank FFA member Chase Pinkert was selected to play in the National FFA Band and Nathan Loutsch was selected to participate in the National FFA Chorus. The National FFA Band and Chorus will perform several times at the 89th National FFA Convention adding excitement and motivation to the sessions through their music. National FFA Band and Chorus members are nominated by their state associations and were chosen from a pool of more than 250 applications, of which only 80 is selected. The young musicians arrive in Indianapolis three days before convention to begin rehearse.

Milbank FFA members: Kiera Leddy, Kasey Schmidt and Mikayla Sousa will be receiving their American FFA Degree. The American FFA Degree is awarded to FFA members who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to FFA. These members will be recognized during the eighth general session of the 89th National FFA Convention & Expo. The American FFA Degree program is sponsored by ADM Crop Risk Services, Case IH, DuPont Pioneer, Elanco, Farm Credit and Syngenta as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.

Milbank FFA members: Devon Balling, Callie Bolin , Claire Mischel and Kadon Leddy will be delegates to the National FFA Convention from South Dakota. They will do touring of agribusiness, attending leadership sessions and convention sessions, attend the FFA Career Show and AgriScience displays.
