National scholarships for young women
The Marilyn Spiker Memorial Scholarship and the Sheila Massey Memorial Scholarship are being offered to young women for the fall of 2017. The sponsors are the Foundation for Agricultural Education and Development (FAED) and Women Involved in Farm Economics (WIFE). Together they are offering four (4) one-year scholarships of $1000 each.
Applicants must be young women enrolled in their first or second year of college studies in 2017 in an agricultural field, such as agronomy, agricultural economics or engineering, veterinary medicine, Extension education, or a related field.
The application form or more information on either organization can be obtained by contacting scholarship chairman Phyllis Howatt, at 1409 12th Ave, Langdon, ND 58249-1925, phone 701-256-2151 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The form is also available online at www.nationalwife.org then click on FAED. The application, two letters of recommendation and a current photo must be sent to her by March 1, 2017.
“North Dakota has had several national winners in the past. Maybe one of this year’s applicants will be another winner. Scholarships can really help with college costs,” said Howatt.
North Dakota WIFE will accept applications from young women living in North Dakota. Special consideration will be given to any applicant who is a member of WIFE or FAED, or the daughter, granddaughter, sister or niece of a current member.
The cooperating organizations share a commitment to agriculture and education. WIFE was formed in 1976 and members work together to improve profitability in production agriculture. FAED was formed in 1983 to help educate and inform the general public about the importance of agriculture and its relationship to the welfare of the national economy.
