Federal grant funding available for outdoor recreation

Applications are being accepted for grants from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Grant monies are federal dollars that are apportioned to states by Congress to fund public outdoor recreation projects sponsored by city, county, township and tribal governments.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund provides up to 50 percent reimbursement for approved outdoor recreation projects, and grants will be awarded to develop or renovate public facilities or acquire park land. A total of $425,000 in federal funds is available, and grant awards will range from $10,000 to a maximum of $75,000.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 8, and application packets are available at gfp.sd.gov/agency/partnerships/lwcf.aspx.
