Sioux Falls Area Chamber to present ag honors
The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce has named the Matt and Paula Loewe Family as the 2018 Farm Family of the Year and Sylvia Wolters as the 2018 Agri-Business Citizen of the Year.
The Chamber’s Agri-Business Division sponsors the Farm Family of the Year and Agri-Business Citizen of the Year awards in recognition of the importance of agriculture to our region and state. A subcommittee of the Agri-Business Division nominates deserving families and agri-business citizens to be considered for the award and the voting members of the Agri-Business Division Advisory Council select the winners.
Matt and Paula Loewe and their daughters Madeline, Kathryn and Allison farm near Lennox, South Dakota. The Loewes manage nearly 1,000 acres of crop and pasture land. They grow corn, soybeans and rye and feed out cattle in their feedlot. Matt Loewe teaches a class for South Dakota State University and offers tours of the farm as an educational opportunity.
Sylvia Wolters is the director of public relations for Pipestone System. She focuses on consumer outreach and educating the public about modern agriculture practices. Wolters was instrumental in the creation of the Pipestone Discovery Barn at the Sioux Empire Fair.
Both the Loewes and Wolters will be recognized at the Mayor’s Round-Up & Sale of Champions on Jan. 26. The event is part of the 65th Annual Sioux Empire Farm Show, which takes place Jan. 23-27. The Farm Family also shares their expertise by sitting on the Chamber´s Agri-Business Division Advisory Council for the year.
