Doland FFA Alumni Chapter
Farm Forum

The newly established Doland FFA Alumni Chapter will be holding a fundraising supper and auction on Feb. 17 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Community Room at the J & A Bar in Doland. The event is being held to help raise money for funding the ag education and FFA program in Doland.

The chapter is reaching out to area businesses and individuals in search of donations and auction items to support the event. Donation dollars will all be spent locally to host the event. If you would like to donate money or auction items, or to purchase tickets, you can contact Kristy Smith at 605-354-3585, Dwight Lyren at 605-897-7632 or Tony Lyren at 605-897-7732.

The alumni chapter was started in the spring of 2017 with the following officers elected: Kristy Smith, president; Tony Lyren, vice-president; Jamie Johnson, secretary; and Catie Ketteler, treasurer. An advisory committee was also formed to assist Doland FFA Chapter Advisor Bailey Coats with curriculum decisions.

The goals of the alumni chapter are to assist Doland FFA students with the cost of attending state and national conventions and leadership camps, as well as help to purchase FFA jackets and aid in funding tools and shop supplies and possibly set up a scholarship fund. In addition, the alumni chapter hopes to support SAE’s (supervised agriculture experience programs) such as beef production, sheep production, diesel mechanics, landscaping and lawn care by acting as or finding community mentors for students. The alumni chapter also hopes to assist with coaching CDE’s (career development events) such as livestock judging, agronomy, floriculture and ag mechanics. The chapter believes investing in ag education and the FFA program provides for the future of our rural communities.

The next meeting of the Doland FFA Alumni Chapter will be Jan. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the ag room at the Doland School. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the alumni chapter is encouraged to do so and is welcome to attend the meeting or can contact Tony Lyren at 605-897-7732. There are no prior requirements to become a member, and you don’t have to be a former FFA member to join; you just need to have an interest in supporting ag education and the FFA program in Doland.
