WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Jan. 29, CropLife America joined a diverse group of manufacturing, energy and food interests in a new alliance – the Campaign for Accuracy in Public Health Research (CAPHR) Coalition. The CAPHR Coalition is dedicated to credible, unbiased and balanced science in policymaking and will advocate at all levels of government, both in the U.S. and internationally, to ensure decision-making and advisory bodies pursue science-based decision frameworks to guide their work.

Recently, the International Agency for Research on Cancer’s (IARC) Monograph Program, housed in the World Health Organization, has seen accusations of data suppression, manipulated conclusions and widespread conflicts. The CAPHR Coalition views this as an opportunity to collaborate with stakeholders to find solutions and update the framework for the IARC Monograph Program, increasing its focus on credible scientific data.

“It is more important now than ever to work with all parties interested in pursuing a strong, science-based foundation when making decisions that address public health,” said Jay Vroom, CropLife America president and CEO. “Without a focus on credible and unbiased science, fear and misperceptions threaten our global food system.”

The Coalition includes the following partners:

• American Chemistry Council.

• American Petroleum Institute.

• CropLife America.

• Distilled Spirits Council.

• Grocery Manufacturers Association.

• Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association.

• National Association of Manufacturers.

• National Stone, Sand, and Gravel Association.

• North American Meat Institute.

• Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates.

• U.S. Council for International Business.
