SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The newly published Fiscal Year 2017 Annual Report of the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) documents another year of positive contributions to fostering long-term economic benefit for Minnesota through value-added agricultural products. AURI provides a host of services and resources to assist the agricultural industry and clients in developing their innovations, creating new products and increasing the use of Minnesota agricultural products in four key areas: renewable energy, biobased products, food and coproducts.

“AURI initiated more than 135 new projects in 2017 and serviced more than 225 activities in all,” said executive director Shannon Schlecht. “Through our Innovation Network Program, we hosted 16 events that drew more than 435 attendees. Reports generated from these events were viewed and downloaded more than 2,600 times.”

Based on a survey of past clients, AURI efforts are attributed to $89 million in capital investments since July 2011 and the creation and retention of over 500 jobs. Additionally, businesses reported that annual sales increased by $74 million due to AURI assistance.
