April HuntSAFE course scheduled for Brown County
The first session of the Aberdeen-area 2018 HuntSAFE courses, sponsored by the Sportsman’s Club of Brown County, will be April 11, 18 and 25.
It is a free classroom course with certified HuntSAFE instructors, and it should not be confused with online HuntSAFE courses that are also offered by the state Game, Fish and Parks Department.
The classes will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Terry O’Keefe Hunter Education Center at the Brown County Rifle Range, which is 5.5 miles south of the intersection of U.S. highways 12 and 281. Participants need to attend all three classes to receive a HuntSAFE certification and identification card.
The HuntSAFE course is for youth 12 and older and 11-year-olds who will turn 12 this year. The course is not necessary or intended for 10- or 11-year-olds who plan to participate in the mentored hunt program.
Preregistration is required, and class openings are still available. To register, go to gfp.sd.gov/hunter-education/ or call the Brown County GFP office at 605-626-2391.
