Area USDA March 1 grain stocks reports

South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota corn stocks in all positions on March 1, 2018, totaled 500 million bushels, up 4 percent from 2017, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 305 million bushels are stored on farms, down 2 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 195 million bushels, are up 14 percent from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 95.3 million bushels, up 2 percent from last year. On-farm stocks of 37.0 million bushels are unchanged from a year ago but off-farm stocks, at 58.3 million bushels, are up 3 percent from 2017.

All wheat stored in all positions totaled 49.8 million bushels, down 40 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 17.0 million bushels are down 54 percent from 2017 and off-farm stocks of 32.8 million bushels are down 28 percent from last year.

Sorghum off-farm stocks totaled 1.40 million bushels, down 64 percent from March 2017.

Oats stored in all positions totaled 2.64 million bushels, down 34 percent from last year. On-farm stocks of 1.70 million bushels are down 41 percent from 2017. Off-farm stocks of 941,000 bushels are down 14 percent from last year.

North Dakota

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota corn stocks stored in all positions on March 1, 2018, totaled 259 million bushels, down 18 percent from a year ago, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. On-farm stocks of 165 million bushels are down 23 percent from 2017 and off-farm stocks of 93.7 million bushels are down 7 percent from last year.

All wheat stored in all positions totaled 159 million bushels, down 22 percent from a year ago.

On-farm stocks of 91.0 million are down 24 percent from 2017 and off-farm stocks of 68.0 million bushels are down 21 percent from last year. Durum wheat stored in all positions totaled 21.2 million bushels, down 21 percent from a year ago.

Barley stored in all positions totaled 32.8 million bushels, down 20 percent from 2017. On-farm stocks are 15.0 million bushels, down 25 percent from last year and off-farm stocks, at 17.8 million bushels, are down 15 percent from last year.

Soybean stored in all positions totaled 77.4 million bushels, up 20 percent from last year. On-farm stocks, at 39.0 million bushels, are up 28 percent from a year ago and off-farm stocks, at 38.4 million bushels, are up 14 percent from 2017.

Oats stored in all positions totaled 2.71 million bushels, down 33 percent from last year. On-farm stocks, at 2.30 million bushels, are down 36 percent from a year ago and off-farm stocks of 406,000 bushels, are down 9 percent from 2017.

All sunflower stored in all positions totaled 702 million pounds, down slightly from 2017. Oil sunflower stocks are 604 million pounds, up 12 percent from last year. Non-oil sunflower stocks of 98.0 million pounds, are down 41 percent from a year ago.

Minnesota

Corn stored in all positions in Minnesota on March 1, 2018, totaled 1.08 billion bushels, up 2 percent from March 1, 2017, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Grain Stocks report. Of the total stocks, 71 percent were stored on-farm. The December 2017 – February 2018 indicated disappearance totaled 439 million bushels, 3 percent more than the 426 million bushels from the same period last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions in Minnesota on March 1, 2018, totaled 216 million bushels, 20 percent above the 180 million bushels on hand March 1, 2017. Of the total stocks, 53 percent were stored on-farm. Indicated disappearance for December 2017 – February 2018 was 92.5 million bushels, 3 percent less than the 94.9 million bushels from the same quarter last year.

All wheat stored in all positions in Minnesota on March 1, 2018, totaled 58.2 million bushels, 9 percent less than March 1, 2017. Of the total stocks, 50 percent were stored on-farm. Indicated disappearance for December 2017 – February 2018 was 22.6 million bushels, 24 percent below the 29.8 million bushels from the same quarter last year.

Barley stored in all positions in Minnesota on March 1, 2018, totaled 10.6 million bushels, 19 percent more than the stocks on March 1, 2017. Of the total stocks, 18 percent were stored on-farm.

Iowa

Corn stored in all positions in Iowa on March 1, 2018, totaled 1.70 billion bushels, down 1 percent from March 1, 2017, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Grain Stocks report. Of the total stocks, 59 percent were stored on-farm. The December 2017 – February 2018 indicated disappearance totaled 685 million bushels, 1 percent below the 690 million bushels from the same period last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions in Iowa on March 1, 2018, totaled 366 million bushels, 18 percent above the 310 million bushels on hand March 1, 2017. Of the total stocks, 41 percent were stored on-farm. Indicated disappearance for December 2017 – February 2018 is 121 million bushels, 18 percent below the 148 million bushels from the same quarter last year.

Oats stored on-farm in Iowa on March 1, 2018, totaled 750 thousand bushels, down 22 percent from March 1, 2017.

Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska corn stocks in all positions on March 1, 2018, totaled 956 million bushels, down 5 percent from 2017, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 540 million bushels are stored on farms, down 8 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 416 million bushels, are up 1 percent from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 166 million bushels, up 18 percent from last year. On-farm stocks of 51.0 million bushels are up 13 percent from a year ago and off-farm stocks, at 115 million bushels, are up 20 percent from 2017.

Wheat stored in all positions totaled 52.7 million bushels, down 15 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 2.60 million bushels are down 24 percent from 2017 and off-farm stocks of 50.1 million bushels are down 14 percent from last year.

Sorghum stored in all positions totaled 5.50 million bushels, down 48 percent from 2017. On-farm stocks of 750 thousand bushels are up 9 percent from a year ago but off-farm holdings of 4.75 million bushels are down 52 percent from last year.

On-farm oat stocks totaled 500 thousand bushels, up 25 percent from 2017.
