Happy Cow Tour set for July 27

PIERRE — The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association and the South Dakota Grassland Coalition are proud to present the 2018 Happy Cow Tour. The tour will take place July 27 and will begin near Mobridge, S.D. Registration will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. CDT west of Mobridge at Darrel and Francie Smith’s home, with a tour of their ranch, AC Land and Cattle to follow. Lunch will be served at the Wulf Cattle Depot near McLaughlin, S.D. A tour of the Wulf’s feedlot with a discussion of their marketing and genetic programs will follow the lunch.

Topics to be covered include water development; rotational grazing; ranching with rattlesnakes, prairie dogs, and eagles; holistic beef production; and adding value with lowering costs. The Smith home is 1/4 mile south on 1806 on the west side of Lake Oahe near Mobridge, S.D. Bus transportation will be provided to and from all tour locations. Registration is $30, but is free to all South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association and South Dakota Grassland Coalition members.

“This educational event promises to have something for everyone, including SDSU Ice Cream to be provided with lunch. We hope to have a great turnout like we have in years past,” stated Lyle Perman, coordinator of the event.
