Heavy weights headline 38th Annual Whitlock Bay Walleye Tournament

The fourth stop of the Northern Oahe Walleye Series was July 7-8 in Gettysburg for the 38th Annual Whitlock Bay Walleye Tournament, hosted by the Potter County Sportsman’s Club. This year 134 anglers on 50 teams registered for the event.

The three-person team of Mike, Gary and Julie Zell won the tournament, posting a two-day total weight of 31.48 pounds. They also caught the heaviest walleye during Day 2 of the tournament, hauling in a lunker weighing more than 10 pounds. It was one of two fish weighing more than 10 pounds that were weighed in the second day of the tournament.

Second place for the tournament went to the three-man team of Teddy Holzwarth, Matt Gielow and Justin Oster, who weighed in 31.18 pounds of walleye.

Third place went to Don Massa, Nathan Pulscher and Thomas Massa, who finished with a total weight of 30.81 pounds.

The biggest walleye of Day 1 was caught by the team of Travor Diegel, Scott Diegel and Brad Remmich, who weighed in a 6.41-pound fish.

The Northern Oahe Walleye Series, which is comprised of six qualifying tournaments that lead up to a championship event held in Mobridge, continues July 21-22 with the South Dakota Walleye Classic in Akaska. For more information, go to northernoaheseries.com.
