Aberdeen: The funeral service for Shirley Emma Fischer, 78, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:30am, Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church, Aberdeen, with Pastor Vern Dahlstein officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Shirley died Tuesday, October 16, at Prairie Heights Healthcare, Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 3:00-7:00pm, Friday, with family present from 5:00-7:00pm, followed by a prayer service at 7:00pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.

Shirley Emma Bader was born on July 7, 1940, to Albert and Emma (Reiger) Bader in Hillsview, SD. She grew up farming and attended school in Eureka, SD, graduating from Eureka High School in 1958.

On April 12, 1959, Shirley married Melvin Fischer at the Eureka Congregational Church. They made their home in Eureka for several years before moving to Aberdeen. Together they enjoyed camping and traveling. They spent seven winters in Arizona before they had to quit because of health reasons. Shirley enjoyed children and often babysat for numerous families in her neighborhood.

Shirley loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She always enjoyed playing cards and board games. She had a warm smile and genuinely cared about others.

Grateful for having shared Shirley’s life are her husband, Melvin Fischer, Aberdeen; sons: Bruce (Kristi) Fischer, Aberdeen, Mark (Cindy) Fischer, Sioux Falls, SD, and Todd Fischer (Stacy Krahl) Aberdeen; grandchildren: Justin Fischer, Tyler Fischer, Megan (Jordan) Dunham, Brady Fischer and Amanda Fischer; great-grandson, Benson Beck; sisters-in-law: Verna (Milbert) Schaffer, Aberdeen, SD, and Priscilla “Percy” Neuharth, Eureka, SD; and many niece and nephews.

Preceding Shirley in death are her parents: Albert and Emma Bader; sister, Violet Beck; brother-in-law, Marvin Beck; and grandchild, Michael.
