South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS — For the week ending November 4, 2018, there were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 3 percent very short, 12 short, 79 adequate, and 6 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 8 percent very short, 23 short, 65 adequate, and 4 surplus.

Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 5 percent very poor, 8 poor, 17 fair, 44 good, and 26 excellent. Corn harvested was 59 percent, near 57 last year, but behind 70 for the five-year average.

Soybeans harvested was 92 percent, behind 99 last year and 97 average.

Sorghum condition rated 1 percent very poor, 2 poor, 19 fair, 73 good, and 5 excellent. Sorghum harvested was 63 percent, behind 71 last year and 80 average.

Sunflowers harvested was 45 percent, well behind 66 last year, and behind 62 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 7 poor, 33 fair, 58 good, and 1 excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 84 percent, behind 94 last year and 91 average.

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 8 percent very poor, 15 poor, 30 fair, 44 good, and 3 excellent.

North Dakota

FARGO, N.D. — For the week ending November 4, 2018, there were 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 5 percent very short, 19 short, 70 adequate, and 6 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 11 percent very short, 28 short, 56 adequate, and 5 surplus.

Field Crops Report: Soybeans harvested was 86 percent, behind 98 last year and 97 for the five-year average.

Winter wheat condition rated 0 percent very poor, 3 poor, 26 fair, 61 good, and 10 excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 92 percent, near 91 last year and 93 average.

Corn condition rated 2 percent very poor, 10 poor, 22 fair, 50 good, and 16 excellent. Corn harvested was 49 percent, behind 56 last year and 62 average.

Sugarbeets harvested was 98 percent, near 100 both last year and average.

Sunflowers harvested was 61 percent, behind 70 last year, but near 60 average.

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 6 percent very poor, 19 poor, 43 fair, 30 good, and 2 excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 6 percent very short, 31 short, 61 adequate, and 2 surplus.

Minnesota

Wet fields continued to impact harvest progress during the week ending November 4, 2018, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. There were 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork. Field activities for the week included harvesting corn, soybeans, potatoes, sunflowers and sugarbeets. Reports of fertilizer application and fall tillage were also received.

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 0 percent very short, 2 percent short, 68 percent adequate and 30 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 67 percent adequate and 26 percent surplus.

Corn harvested for grain was 78 percent complete, 8 days ahead of last year. Corn moisture content of grain at harvest averaged 18 percent, down 1 percentage point from last week. Ninety-four percent of the soybean crop was harvested, one week behind last year and nine days behind average.

Sunflower harvest was 73 percent complete, 6 days behind average. Potato harvest was nearing completion at 97 percent complete. Sugarbeet harvest was 99 percent complete.

Iowa

Iowa farmers had another good week for harvesting with 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 4, 2018, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Activities for the week included harvesting corn and soybeans, baling stalks, anhydrous and manure application, fall tillage, tile repair, and planting cover crops.

Topsoil moisture levels rated 0 percent very short, 1 percent short, 71 percent adequate and 28 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture levels rated 0 percent very short, 2 percent short, 71 percent adequate and 27 percent surplus.

Seventy-two percent of the State’s corn for grain crop has been harvested, 3 days ahead of last year but 1 day behind the five-year average. Farmers in central Iowa have harvested 80 percent of their corn for grain while farmers in the southwest have 45 percent of their corn for grain remaining to be harvested. Moisture content of field corn being harvested averaged 17 percent. Soybean harvest was 88 percent complete, 2 days behind last year and 6 days behind the average.

Recent rains have left some feedlot cattle stressed with standing water and muddy conditions, while others reported livestock conditions as very good.

Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. — For the week ending November 4, 2018, there were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 4 short, 80 adequate, and 15 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 6 short, 84 adequate, and 9 surplus.

Field Crops Report: Corn harvested was 65 percent, equal to last year, and behind 72 for the five-year average.

Soybeans harvested was 90 percent, near 94 last year, and behind 96 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 2 percent very poor, 6 poor, 22 fair, 50 good, and 20 excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 93 percent, near 92 last year and 96 average.

Sorghum harvested was 73 percent, ahead of 63 last year, but near 76 average.
