SIOUX FALLS – Six purebred cattle breeds vied for the coveted $12,000 Supreme Row purse, sponsored by Tri-State Neighbor, Wells Fargo Bank and Campbell’s, during the week of the Sioux Empire Livestock Show Jan. 22-26 in Sioux Falls.
The Charolais, JORGE 8811 ET, was named Supreme Row Bull. Consigned by McKenzye Gunderson, Parker, S.D., he was sired by TR PZC MR TURTON 0794 ET and out of WCR MS DESIGN 7371 P. He sold for $3,500 to Jaden Kellogg, St. Lawrence, S.D.
The Simmental, TENA LAURYN 21E, was named Supreme Row Female. Consigned by Allyson Beninga, Sioux Falls, she was sired by TENA High Time 442B and out of ASCC LAURYN 11X. She sold to Becky Rose, Chamberlain, S.D., for $4,250.

Market Beef Show
Taylor Glover, Elgin, Okla., exhibited the champion market beef at the Sioux Empire Livestock Show Market Beef Show Jan. 25 in Sioux Falls.
The reserve champion market beef was exhibited by Cohl Van Meter, Monon, Ind.
Graham Blagg, Spring Hill, Kan., judged a total of 24 market beef in four classes.

4-H and FFA Youth Invitational Calf Show
Kent Thiesse, Lake Crystal, Minn., judged the 4H/FFA Youth Invitational Calf Show at the Sioux Empire Livestock Show Jan. 22 in Sioux Falls.
Five classes of breeding heifers were shown with the grand champion heifer going to Dawson Johnson, Pipestone, Minn. Kianna Hazel, Beresford, S.D.,, exhibited the reserve champion heifer.
Forty-one head were shown with first and second place in each of the five classes as follows, respectively: Class 1: Anna Bonine, Beresford; Drew Fick, Adrian, Minn.; Class 2: Kianna Hazel, Allyson Beninga, Sioux Falls; Class 3: Brooklyn Ludens, Hurley, S.D.; Greyson Nielson, Arlington, S.D.; Class 4: Dawson Johnson, Kinsly Altena, George, Iowa; and Class 5: Seth Kjose, Beresford; Chloe Hazel, Beresford.
Twenty steers were shown in five classes. The champion steer came from Landon Thiessen, Rock Rapids, Iowa, with the reserve champion coming from Tanner Van Asselt, Colton, S.D.

Six feeder heifers were shown in two classes. Kory Moser, Larchwood, Iowa, showed the champion feeder heifer. Mckenzye Gunderson, Parker, S.D., exhibited the reserve champion feeder heifer.
First and second places in each class were: Class 1: Kory Moser, Makayla Simmermon, Colton; and Class 2: Mckenzye Gunderson, Allison Sundal, Baltic, S.D.
Braedon Bauman, Pipestone, was named champion senior showman and received the Curt Alberty Memorial Award. Talen Hazel was named champion junior showman and received the Darla VanAsselt Memorial Award. Kinsly Altena was named champion beginner showman and received the Bonnie Glass Memorial Award.
Junior Judging Contest
Two hundred seven 4-H and FFA members from three states competed in the Sioux Empire Livestock Show Junior Judging Contest Jan. 26 in Sioux Falls.
Miner County 4-H 1 was the high senior team with 1,736 points. Mower County was second with 1,720 points. Turner County 4-H 1 was the third place team with 1,718 points.
The top 10 individuals in the senior division were: Sawyer Naasz, C-S-P; Hunter Miller, Deuel County 4-H; Kristine Schechinger, Mower County; Carter Calmus, Miner County 4-H 1; Colton Raatz, Pipestone County 4-H; Logan Schlim, Miner County 4-H 1; Caleb Bratland, Clark; Austin Foss, Akron-Westfield FFA 3; Will Benson, Tri-Valley FFA 1; and Ty Schoelerman, Spencer FFA.
Colton Hustlers 4-H 1 was the high junior team with 1,548 points. Miner County 4-H was second with 1,510 points. Helping Hands 3 was the third place team with 1,451 points.

Turner County 4-H was the high beginner team with 1,379 points. Helping Hands 1 was second with 1,371 points. McCook County Kids 4-H was the third place team with 1,210 points.

Collegiate Judging Contest
Seventy-one contestants competed in the senior college division and 93 contestants competed in the junior college division in the Sioux Empire Livestock Show Collegiate Livestock Judging Contest Jan. 26 in Sioux Falls.
Kansas State University Purple was first team overall in the senior college division with 4,622 points. South Dakota State University 1 was second overall with 4,617 points.
Third through fifth place teams in the senior college division were University of Wyoming Gold, Kansas State University White and Western Illinois Gold.
The high individual in the senior division was Adrian Austin, Kansas State University Purple. Shanan Davey from University of Wyoming Gold was second overall.
Third through fifth place individuals were Derek Henningsen, Iowa State University Gold; Lexi Kaiser, University of Nebraska; and Bady McComb, Kansas State University White.
In the junior college division, Hutchinson Community College Blue was first with 4,685 points. Northern Oklahoma 1 was second with 4,623 points.
Third through fifth place teams in the junior college division were Butler Community College #1, NEO A&M 1 and Blackhawk Community College White.
Grady Hammer, Hutchinson Community College Blue, was the high individual in the junior college contest. Tyler Bush, Hutchinson Community College Blue, was second overall.
Third through fifth place individuals in the junior college division were Jakob Juul, Butler Community College 1; Raylyn Thompson, Northern Oklahoma 1; and Matthew Chaney, Hutchinson Community College Blue.
Angus Show and Sale
Glenn Johnson, Pipestone, Minn., judged the Sioux Empire Livestock Show Angus Show Jan. 23 in Sioux Falls.
Johnson chose lot 31, Bullerman Cowboy Up 8081, a consignment from Bullerman Angus Farm, Adrian, Minn., as champion bull. He was sired by HA Cowboy Up 5405 and out of Bullerman Queen 1456. He sold for $3,500 to David Kitchell, Ada, Minn.
Reserve champion bull went to lot 16, Dandy Acres Dually 40, a consignment from Dandy Acres Angus, Pipestone. He was sired by DL Dually and out of Dandy Acres Lynn 129. He sold to Dale Johnson, Lake Benton, Minn., for $2,750.
The highest selling bull was lot 28, a consignment from Paulsen-Maass Angus, Hartley, Iowa. He sold to Alfred Fox, Watertown, S.D., for $6,000. The second highest selling bull was lot 43, a consignment from K&J Angus, Larchwood, Iowa. He sold to Loren Halma, Inwood, Iowa, for $5,200.
Johnson chose lot 2, HCC Barbaramere 813F, a consignment from Hawley Cattle Company, Burbank, S.D., as champion female. She was sired by EXAR Blue Chip 1877B and out of KA Barbaramere 4201. She was the highest selling female and sold to Ben Po, Fulshear, Texas, for $3,500.
Johnson chose lot 14, Bullerman Georgina 8023, as reserve champion female. She was consigned by Bullerman Angus Farm. She was sired by C&C Priority 1428B EXAR and out of Bullerman Georgina 1218. She was the second highest selling female and sold to Kurt Schultz, Baltic, S.D,, for $3,000.

Red Angus Show and Sale

The highest selling bull was lot 23, a consignment from Caraway Red Angus Ranch, Lake Benton, Minn. He sold to Thomas Croat, Rushmore, Minn., for $4,000. Lot 13 was the second highest selling bull, another consignment from Caraway Red Angus Ranch. He sold to Mark Croat, Rushmore, for $3,500.
Ernst chose lot 3, TLC FLORENCE 823F, a consignment from TLC Livestock Services, as champion female. She was sired by BHR DURANGO 1158 and out of TLC DIAMOND 635D ET. She was the highest selling female and sold to Brian Schuter, Frankton, Ind., for $5,000.
Ernst chose lot 5, CSPF MARY ANN 67E, as reserve champion female. She was consigned by Pladsen Red Angus, Harpers Ferry, Iowa. She was sired by CSPF MR. BO JANGLES and out of PIE RASPBERRY TUO 0211. She was the second highest selling female and sold to Dick Wise, Decorah, Iowa, for $2,800.
Dustin Carter, Vermillion, S.D., served as auctioneer for the Red Angus Sale. Twelve bulls averaged $2,666.67, and five females averaged $2,550.
Hereford Show and Sale

The other highest selling bull was lot 33, a consignment from John Schmidt, Pipestone, Minn. He sold to Don Christensen, Beresford, S.D., for $4,000. The second highest selling bull was lot 19 from Bar M Herefords, Hampton, Neb. He sold for $3,900 to Brian Samuelson, Polk, Neb.

Folkerts chose lot 36, VCC CARLOS E72, a consignment from Vajgrt Cattle Co., Newhall, Iowa, as champion bull. He was sired by WLE UNO MAS X549 and out of OMF DEW IT SHORTY A72. He was the highest selling bull and sold to Steve Mairose, Kimball, S.D., for $5,750.

DeJong chose lot 1, JKW FRUITY 62 84, as reserve champion female. She was consigned by JKW Charolais, Rochester, Minn. She was sired by TCCS COOL WHISKEY and out of JKW DOTTY 31 62. She was the second highest selling female and sold to Aaron S. Thompson, Elkton, S.D., for $1,100.
Dustin Carter, Vermillion, S.D., served as auctioneer for the Charolais Sale. Five bulls averaged $2,800, and two females averaged $2,400.
Market Goat Show
Tate Bittner, Thornton, Ind., exhibited the champion and reserve champion market goats at the Sioux Empire Livestock Show Market Goat Show Jan. 25 in Sioux Falls.
Caleb Boardman, Laramie, Wyo., judged a total of 45 goats in eight classes.
Third through fifth places overall were as follows: Taten Dilly, Sheldon, Mo.; Riley Hoyle, Taylor, Ark.; and Riley Larson, Wessington Springs, S.D. The top five market goats’ premiums sold at the Mayor’s Round-up and Sale of Champions Jan. 25.
Market Lamb Show
McKenzie Rule, Hawarden, Iowa, exhibited the champion market lamb at the Sioux Empire Livestock Show Market Lamb Show Jan. 24 in Sioux Falls.
The reserve champion market lamb was exhibited by Brayden Bowers, Belmont, Wis.
Caleb Boardman, Laramie, Wyo., judged a total of 30 lambs in six classes.
Third through fifth places overall were as follows: Madison Rule, Hawarden; Madison Rule; and Brittney Schmillen, Marcus, Iowa. The top five market lambs’ premiums sold at the Mayor’s Round-up and Sale of Champions Jan. 25.
Market Swine Show
Zach Muller, Algona, Iowa, exhibited the champion market hog, a crossbred, at the Sioux Empire Livestock Show Market Swine Show Jan. 23 in Sioux Falls.
The reserve champion market hog, a purebred, was exhibited by Carter Calmus, Canova, S.D.
Brant Smith, Monroe Center, Ill., judged a total of 102 hogs. Hogs were shown in 11 purebred and crossbred classes.
Bradi Bohlke, Kingsley, Iowa, showed the reserve champion purebred hog. Jessie Frasher, Anamosa, Iowa, exhibited the reserve champion crossbred.
