Brown County Farmers Union and Farm Safety Day Camp – July 18 in Aberdeen
Farmers Union invites all youth, ages 6-13, to attend Brown County Farmers Union and Farm Safety Day Camp scheduled for July 18 at the Brown County Fairgrounds (rain or shine). Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with camp activities running from 8:30 a.m. — 5 p.m. Camp is free to all who attend. Lunch and snacks provided.
“We look forward to educating our youth on the role that cooperatives play in our everyday lives,” said Mike Traxinger, Brown County Farmers Union Education Director. “Farm safety is also a key component of rural life. For the fourth year in a year, we have partnered with local cooperatives and area businesses to provide sessions on farm safety. We look forward to hosting a fun, safe and friendly day camp.”
Safety will also be stressed as we partner with Agtegra Cooperative, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Avera St. Luke’s, Full Circle Ag, Northern Electric Cooperative and RDO equipment, to discuss various aspects of being safe on the farm. Additional sponsors of the event include Farm Forum and Brown County 4-H.
For the first time at this camp, Brown County 4-H will be putting on a workshop where the youth will be building a craft that they can enter as a project at their county fair or achievement days. Agtegra Cooperative will also be giving a demonstration on drones.
South Dakota Farmers Union’s is the host for “Cooperating For a Brighter Tomorrow” day camp. This year’s theme focuses on the importance of local cooperatives, careers within the local cooperatives, and the relationship between farming and where food comes from. Food, friends, and fun are all a part of brighter tomorrows and engaging youth in positive activities set in the outdoors and away from technology gives campers time to get back to basics.
We encourage all youth to join in on the fun as we embark on our 84th year of learning through games, activities, and a partnership with Brown County 4-H for crafts. Participants do not need to be member of the South Dakota Farmers Union to participate.
