SDSU Extension hosts 2019 Forage Field Day in Beresford Aug. 7

On Aug. 7 SDSU Extension will host a Forage Field Day for livestock producers, agronomists and industry clientele interested in producing and storing high quality forages.

Forage Field Day will be held at SDSU Southeast Research Farm (29974 University Rd.) in Beresford and begins at 10 a.m. and will run until 4 p.m.

“This event will feature hands-on sessions, including annual forage plots focusing on harvest timing for best quality as well as a hay storage demonstration,” said Sara Bauder, SDSU Extension agronomy field specialist. “Speakers include Dr. Kevin Shinners (University of Wisconsin) and Jared Goplen (UMN).” The agenda will focus on the proper annual forage management, harvest, and storage of annual forage crops during a wet year. Other topics include round bale storage and forage quality.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour forage plots, partake in hands-on demonstrations, and learn about safe operation of baling equipment as demonstrated by John Keimig (SDSU).
