The Angus Foundation Heifer Package has been sold at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver since 1980 to generate unrestricted funds for Angus education, youth and research efforts. This year, Bob and Dana McClaren of 44 Farms from Cameron, Texas, bought the elite Heifer Package, which offered a choice from three embryo transfer calves donated by the Bennett family of Knoll Crest Farms from Red House, Virginia. The Foundation Heifer Package raised $65,000 in unrestricted funds to support education, youth and research.

The package sold at the 2020 NWSS just prior to the Angus Bull Sale held Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, in Denver, Colorado. It also includes: 30 days of free insurance from American Live Stock Insurance Co., Batavia, Illinois; free transportation to the buyer’s ranch provided by Lathrop Livestock Transportation, Dundee, Illinois; and advanced reproductive technology package from Trans Ova Genetics, Sioux Center, Iowa.

“We’re so thankful for the strong support for the long-standing Angus Foundation Heifer Package sale among bidders and contributors,” said Thomas Marten, Angus Foundation executive director. “It’s truly an inspiration to see the passion in the Angus family.”

Knoll Crest offered the buyers the choice of one heifer at weaning from an elite mating of Thomas Patricia 9705 to KCF Bennett Consent Y75. The genomic test and genomically enhanced expected progeny differences (EPDs) will be calculated before the selection. Full siblings to these heifers include KCF Bennett Summation (Katie-Colin Farms and Quaker Hill Farms), KCF Bennett Assent (Alta Genetics) and KCF Bennett Citation (44 Farms). Maternal siblings to these heifers include KCF Bennett Fortress (Select Sires), KCF Bennett Immense (Semex) and KCF Bennett Optimizer (Connealy Angus).

The Angus Foundation Heifer Package has raised more than $2.6 million since the inception of the event.
