Feb. 11 – Angus and Hereford

The first two of the 2020 Watertown Winter Farm Show livestock sales were held on Feb. 11 in the main sales ring at the Codington County Extension Center.

Taking place were sales by the South Dakota Angus Association and the South Dakota Hereford Association.

Here are the results.

Angus

Champion and top selling bull, lot 23. Consigned by RPM Angus, Britton, SD. Bought by Lonnie Krause for $3,750

Reserve champion bull, lot 26. Consigned by RPM Angus, Britton, SD. Bought by Myron Kuhlman for $3,750

24 bulls grossed $74,200 with an average of $3,091

Champion and top selling heifer, lot 5. Consigned by Reese Family Angus, Hancock, MN. Bought by Madelynn Rogers for $3,300.

Reserve champion heifer, lot 3. Consigned by Eric Solsaa, Hayti, SD. Bought by Landon Dans for $2,500

Four heifers grossed $10,000 with an average of $2,500

Hereford

Champion bull, lot 23. Consigned by TL Herefords, Canby, MN. Bought by Tom Arnesen, Florence, SD for $2,500.

Reserve champion bull, lot 12X. Consigned by Hanson’s Polled Herefords, Conde, SD. Bought by Bottum Brothers Partnership for $2,700.

Top selling bull, lot 10. Consigned by Hanson’s Polled Herefords, Conde, SD. Bought by Woodcrest Farms for $4,500.

Fifteen bulls grossed $45,350 with an average of $3,023

Champion heifer, lot 3. Consigned by Liable Herefords, Howard, SD. Bought by John Albrecht for $2,000.

Reserve champion and top selling heifer, lot 7. Consigned by Hanson’s Polled Herefords, Conde, SD. Bought by Kayden Thelen for $5,250

Seven heifer grossed $19,000 with an average of $2,714.

Feb. 12 – Simmental Percentage, Simmental Purebred, Charolais and Maine Anjou

Thyen Simmentals of Hayti claimed the grand champion bull during the SD Simmental Percentage auction held on Feb. 12 during the Watertown Winter Farm Show.

The bull was purchased for $5,750.

Percentage Simmentals, Charolais and Maine Anjou were also sold on Feb. 12.

Keppen Charolais of Volga was the consignor for the top Charolais bull, selling for $7,500 to a Minnesota buyer.

The leading pure Simmental bull sold for $4,000. It was consigned by Katelyn Vizecky of White.

Leading the Maine Anjou bulls was one consigned by Eastview Maines of Jasper, Minnesota. It sold for $4,000.

Charolais

Champion bull, lot 5. Consigned by Keppen Charolais, Volga, SD. Bought by Zender-Waag, MN for $7,500.

Reserve champion and top selling bull, lot 9. Consigned by Vedvei Charolais, Lake Preston, SD. Bought by Jerome Fitch for $8,250.

Twelve bulls grossed $60,400 with an average of $5,033.

Champion heifer and top selling heifer, lot 16. Consigned by Johnsen Land and Cattle, Wessington, SD. Bought by Marty Maholie, Chamberlain, SD for $3,250.

Reserve champion heifer, lot 15. Consigned by J&M Ranch, Lake Preston, SD. Bought by Preston Miles, Redfield, SD for $2,750.

Maine Anjou

Two bulls grossed $6,250 with an average of $3,125.

Feb. 13 – Shorthorn Purebred and Shorthorn Plus

Producers from Florence, Bryant and Watertown each picked up top honors during the Shorthorn Purebred and Shorthorn Plus sales on Feb. 13 at the Watertown Winter Farm Show.

Kelsey Begalka of Florence had the Shorthorn Purebred champion heifer, which sold for $5,500.

Bar Lazy R of Watertown had the top selling heifer at $6,100.

The champion and top selling heifer in Shorthorn Plus was sold by 3 Buck Cattle Company of Bryant. Its price was $3,000.

The champion and top selling Shorthorn Purebred bull was sold by Wildwood Farm of Buffalo, Minn. It went for $2,900.

Reserve champion heifer, lot 8. Consigned by Osterman Shorthorns, Conde. Bought by Joseph Angus Ranch for $2,800.

Five heifers grossed $9,200 with an average of $1,840.

Feb. 14 – Supreme Row

Kelsey Begalka of Florence earned a Supreme Row title when her shorthorn heifer was awarded the reserve champion female.

RPM Angus of Britton took the Supreme Row bull title with its Angus, and Eastview Maines of Jasper, Minnesota was the reserve champion with a Maine Anjou.

The Supreme Row champion heifer was a Simmental belonging to Johnson Land & Cattle Company of Wessington, SD.

All four animals were purchased, but no prices were included in the results.
