Goat tour and pasture walk scheduled

Dakota Goat Association

Come join the Dakota Goat Association for their tour of the Jason and Karlia Dahl goat operation near Estelline, S.D. on Saturday, July 11 from 1to 5 p.m. The Dahl’s own Heartland Savanna, featuring DNA certified Savanna meat goats.

During the tour, you’ll learn about general management of a meat goat herd, genetic selection, artificial insemination, and marketing specialty breeds. The Dahl’s are good grass managers, so participants will have a chance to see their pasture management and learn what type of fencing and other considerations are needed for an operation with both goats and beef cattle.

“Both purebred and commercial herd owners can learn from this tour,” says Mandy Thomas-Chesney, DGA Steering Committee member. “The Dahl’s are a great resource for goat producers. They are willing to answer questions and share what’s worked and what hasn’t in their operation.”

The tour is open to the public and out-of-state goat owners are welcome. Cost is $10 for DGA members and $15 for non-members. You must pre-register by July 8 through the group’s website at www.dakotagoats.org or call LeAnn Harner at 701-516-0707.
