SDSU Extension welcomes new 4-H Youth Program Advisor for Minnehaha County

SDSU Extension is excited to welcome Aubrey Anderson as the new 4-H Youth Program Advisor for Minnehaha County. 

Anderson will support youth through providing meaningful, hands-on educational opportunities as program advisor for the state’s largest county. She is excited to find creative ways to support the youth in Minnehaha County through traditional 4-H programs and outreach into the community. 

“Aubrey is a phenomenal hire for SDSU Extension’s 4-H program! We are so excited to have an educator with so much experience join our ranks,” said Oakley G. Perry, SDSU Extension 4-H County Operations and Professional Development Program Manager. “Locations like Sioux Falls, and the rest of the county, need 4-H just as much as our rural communities. Aubrey is excited to expand our programs and our reach while we teach young people the skills they need to make South Dakota a better place one day at a time. We are extremely excited to see how Aubrey makes the best better in Minnehaha County.”

A Sioux Falls native, Anderson participated in 4-H in Minnehaha County as a youth. Her favorite project areas included special foods, fashion revue and judging. She was also an active participant in visual arts, foods and nutrition and community service. 

“I believe my involvement in community service through 4-H helped me learn how important it is to care for and invest in the people in my community,” Anderson said. “4-H involvement truly set the foundation for my future career choices in education and social work.”

Anderson earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a master’s degree in education from Augustana University in Sioux Falls. She spent 10 years as a teacher, then spent time as a social worker helping families become licensed to foster or adopt children.

“My passion has always been education and youth. 4-H involvement has provided so much enrichment in my own life and I’m so excited to be able to return to 4-H and help open doors for the youth in our community to learn, grow and develop,” Anderson said.
