Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputies removed three horses from a rural Oakland, Minn., property on Jan. 10 after receiving a report of possible animal neglect.

One of the horses has since died.

A news release stated the Sheriff’s Office was informed of the possible neglect on Jan. 9 at 23939 885th Ave.

A deputy went to the property on Jan. 9 and evaluated one of the horses, which was found to be in poor health.

The next day, a deputy, with the assistance of the Freeborn County Humane Society, executed a search warrant at the property and removed the horses.

The remaining horses are being held in a safe and undisclosed location.

The case is open and still under investigation.
