N.D. horses seized
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Authorities in Burleigh County seized 38 horses from a man on the same day officials in neighboring Morton County took 119 horses away from him.
Ninety-six dead horses were discovered on the Morton County property and three dead horses were found on the Burleigh County land. The horses that survived the alleged neglect are being fed and cared for onsite, except for 25 that are in bad shape and being cared for by a horse rescue organization.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that the owner of the horses has not been identified because he has not been arrested. Prosecutors are considering charges.
N.Y. girl gives away savings to help sick N.D. horses
A 6-year-old girl from New York has emptied her savings box to help the herd of North Dakota horses suffering from neglect.
Madi Georgia of Whitney Point, N.Y., had been saving the money because she wanted to buy a dolphin, but was upset when she heard about the plight of the North Dakota horses.
The money in Madi’s box came to $177. It was sent to Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue, where 25 of the sick horses were taken.
Madi’s mother, Rachelle Frost, tells the Bismarck Tribune that a thank-you note from Triple H nearly brought her daughter to tears.
