South Dakota Horse Council to host spring clinic April 5

The South Dakota Horse Council would like to welcome you to attend their spring clinic featuring Jim and Sandy Jirkovsky Saturday, April 5, at the SDSU Animal Science Arena in Brookings, S.D. Jim and Sandy will be presenting on judging, showmanship, horsemanship, roping technique, and tie down roping tying technique. The Jirkovsky’s hail from Kearney, Neb., where they own J Bar S Training, specializing in training the all-around horse and rider. They have been involved in the horse industry for over forty years and have been involved in training, showing, coaching, judging, and breeding. Together, Jim and Sandy have trained and shown over 200 World and National Appaloosa champions in events ranging from Working Cow Horse, Reining, Trail, Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Western Riding, Halter, and Hunter in Hand. They have won the prestigious title of World’s Best Appaloosa and the Nutrena Iron Horse award several years with different horses.

Sandy is a carded judge with AQHA, NRHA, NRCHA, NSBA, ApHA, and ApHC. She has judged the Quarter Horse Congress, the NRHA futurity, the AQHA European World Championships, the APHA Youth World and APHA Fall Championships. Jim is a carded judge with the APHA and ApHC and has judged the APHA World Championships, the ApHC National Championships and major shows throughout the United States. Their judging has taken them not only throughout the United States but also to Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, France, England, Mexico, and Denmark. Jim and Sandy look forward to the Horse Council clinic and encourage participation from the audience. They are open to questions from all levels.

The Horse Council is also happy to include Youth HORSE training and an educational presentation put on by the SDSU Equine students. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. Cost of admission is $10 for adults 19 and over, $5 for youth 7 – 18, and free for those 6 and under.
