Farm Forum

The Casey Tibbs Foundation is hosting the 21st Annual Casey Tibbs Match of Champions Bronc Ride on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Proceeds will benefit the Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center.

The activities begin at the Stanley County Fairgrounds at 5 p.m. for the steak feed and live music by Plains Folk. The steak fry is $12 per plate with a limited number available. The bronc match starts at 7 p.m. with thirty of the top cowboys in the nation competing in the long round and 10 cowboys in the short go for a $15,000 rider’s purse.

This year we will be honoring five individuals from across the state, who have dedicated much of their lives to the sport of rodeo: Jim Smeenk, of Newell as Match Dedication honoree, Representative Lance Carson of Mitchell as Honorary Arena Director, Jon Mattson of Deadwood as Honorary Chute Boss, and Rose Ridley & Kim Ridley, of St. Onge as Co-Honorary Secretary/Timers.

Match of Champions advance tickets are $15 (through May 29). Tickets at the gate are $20, or Gold Buckle Reserved Seating for $35 (limited number available).

The public is also welcome to see the sculpture garden and the museum at the Casey Tibbs Rodeo Center, on Saturday, from 10-3 p.m. Ranchers are encouraged to bring their branding irons to burn their brands into the timbers of the center. Regular fees apply.
