Dakota Classic Cutting Futurity champions named
The 2014 Dakota Classic Cutting Futurity was held at the Yellow Rose Arena in Platte, S.D., on October 4 & 5, 2014.
The futurity is limited to colts sired by stallions enrolled in a stallion incentive program. The total purse paid out for the Dakota Classic Cutting Futurity was $18,890.66.
Champion of the 3 year old open futurity was Bobby Bo Whitch owned by Troy Hayden of Rapid City, SD and sired by Pepto Blueprint. Pepto Blueprint is owned by Jim and Ethel Whitcher of Scenic, S.D. The Champion colt won $3,178.38.Winning the Reserve Champion honors was Whitchs Taboo sired by Red Hot Quixote and winning $1,901.96, and is another Whitcher bred colt. Jim and Ethel Whitcher also owned the third place colt Whitchs Choice who was ridden by Kyle Gilmour of Faulkton, S.D. Whitchs Choice was sired by Peptos Blueprint and won $1,682.18 for the 3rd place finish with this colt.
The Futurity 3 year old Non Pro class was also won by Bobby Bo Whitch owned and ridden by Troy Hayden of Rapid City, S.D., winning $2,705.01. Reserve Champion in the Futurity Non Pro class was Hesa TR Rey sired by SDP TR Tari Rey owned by Gilbert & Zelda Lutter of Redfield, S.D., and ridden by Gilbert Lutter. This colt won a total of $1,792.07. Gary Hansen of Duluth, Minn., showed a colt TR Paid To Snack sired by Snackbox. TR Paid To Snack won the first and second go rounds and won $2,265.44.
The mare incentive program is paid to the breeder of the highest individual score (not total Score) in the 3 Year Old classes and was won by the colt Bobby Bo Whitch. This was awarded to Jim & Ethel Whitcher.
The 4 year old Derby open class was won by Smokin Manzy Bell, sired by Smokin Manzana and is owned by Michele Thompson of Belgrade, Minn. The win was worth $1,292.82. Reserve Champion in the Derby was Movin In Whitch sired by Red Hot Quixote, owned by Brad Vance of Lipan, Texas, and ridden by Jim Whitcher of Scenic, S.D. This win was worth $430.94.
The 5-6 year old open class was won by the horse Move Lika Whitch sired by Peptos Blueprint, owned by Brad Vance of Lipan, Texas, and ridden by Jim Whitcher of Scenic, S.D. Reserve Champion was Ima Pretty Pepper sired by Annies Little Pepper, owned by J D Gerard of Kennebec, S.D., and ridden by Frank Kenzy of Iona, S.D. In the 5-6 year old Non Pro class Movin By Whitch was Champion and the horse Move Lika Whitch was Reserve Champion, both horses were owned by Brad Vance of Lipan, Texas.
This is the first year that the Ranch Horse Class was added to the Dakota Classic program. These classed were open to any horse ever sired by a Dakota Classic enrolled stallion. These classes were jackpot classes and very well received, with a lot of interest for a first year event. Champion honors in the Junior (3 & 4 Year old) Ranch Horse class went to Ethel Whitcher of Scenic, S.D. riding the 4 year old horse MS Tuff Peppy sired by Pepto Blueprint. The Reserve Champion placing went to Gilbert Lutter of Redfield, S.D., with the 3 year old colt Heza TR Rey sired by SDP TR Tari Rey.
In the Senior Ranch Horse class, open to horses 5 years and older, the Champion horse was Ima Pretty Pepper shown by Frank Kenzy of Iona, S.D. This horse was sired by Annies Little Pepper and is owned by J D Gerard of Kennebec, S.D. Reserve Champion in the senior Ranch horse was Rocky Catalena sired by Peptolena Boy owned by Flynt & Betty Schack of Tolstoy, S.D., and ridden by Flynt Schack.
The 2015 futurity is again scheduled for the first weekend of October.
