Letter: Bill would change fishing forever
This is a call to action to all citizen sportsmen. House Bill 1135 is a malicious bill attempting to restrict use and access to more than 150 bodies of water, most of which are in northeast South Dakota.
HB 1135 rewrites more than 100 years of laws governing bodies of water that we have enjoyed access to as fisheries and other public uses. The bill will take over 1 million acres of public water and transfer it to private use.
If you have ever enjoyed fishing on a lake, hunting a slough, or setting a trap line near a river, your access is now endangered.
A handful of people in the Legislature are now trying overturn public access laws for private gain.
Call your legislators and encourage them to vote against HB 1135 or you will likely lose access to your favorite fishing hole.
