Letter: Sequester cuts are the real thing

Ask not for whom the bell tolls, because at this point it’s ringing pretty loudly for the Democrats in Congress.

Republicans, like Kristi Noem, were wise to vote against careening off the fiscal cliff and save the real battle for spending cuts coming on March 1. The fiscal cliff would’ve hurt the economy by eliminating tax cuts, failing to pay our bills, and doing damage to family farmers.

The sequester cuts, however, are the real thing. They will sting both sides of the aisle and further force the U.S. Senate to actually write a workable budget. Republicans may only control one house of Congress, but they are using it the way they should. Across-the-board cuts are certainly not the preferred way to bring down spending, but they are a great deal better than doing nothing.
