Meet your new Aberdeen area habitat specialist

Brendan Kamerzell
Pheasants Forever

Hello, my name is Brendan Kamerzell. I am the new habitat specialist for Pheasants Forever located in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I was raised in Martin, South Dakota and graduated from Bennett County High School in 2018. After graduation, I attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science with a focus in Wildlife Management in the spring of 2022. During my time at Dakota Wesleyan, I was involved in various teams and clubs, such as the baseball team and the Conservation Club.

When I am not at work, I enjoy hunting, fishing, and golfing. These hobbies persuaded me to pursue a degree in Wildlife Management and work for Pheasants Forever. As a Habitat Specialist, this job allows me to bring my hobbies into my everyday tasks and be able to use the knowledge I have gained through life experiences. As a new hire, I am looking forward to furthering my knowledge and experiences here with Pheasants Forever. My job will consist of assisting Game Fish and Parks with planting food plots, controlled burns, planting trees, planting grass plots, and other Game Production Area maintenance.

In my short time in Aberdeen, I have already jumped into field work on Game Production Areas in the northeast region. Some of these field tasks are mowing fire/burn breaks, planting native grasses and forbs, and fall plantings for grass. We have also started winterizing some of our equipment. I am also working on getting my CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) and wildland fire certifications so I am ready to help with the upcoming 2023 field season. I am excited to get into the field more and help manage the habitats and food plots for the wildlife of South Dakota.
